Why I Prefer General Anesthesia For Breast Reduction Surgery

There are breast reduction surgeons who will perform breast reduction surgery for San Francisco Bay Area women under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. I am not one of them.

My main goal is the safety and comfort of the patient. I employ a Board Certified Anesthesiologist, Randy Gaynor, M.D., to administer general anesthesia and monitor my surgery patients, allowing me to concentrate on the surgery. With the patient asleep under a general, I do not need to worry about the patient moving around or being uncomfortable as it can be difficult to control pain under local anesthesia.

For reduction mammoplasty patients whose concerns are general anesthesia risks and nausea after surgery, there have been tremendous advances in recent years making those issues a thing of the past. General anesthesia is safe, easier on the patient, and it reduces the amount of time in surgery.
