LIFESTYLE LIFT® ONE SIZE FITS ALL?

If you watch television at all, you are most likely familiar with the multiple ads for Lifestyle Lifts. The ads claim that the procedure does not need to be performed under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia and the recovery is much shorter than for a modern facelift. Many of Miguel Delgado, M.D.’s patients have asked him about the Lifestyle Lift® and ask if he performs it. The answer is no. He does the modern facelift and says that it needs to be done under general anesthesia to keep the patient the most comfortable and to be sure that the patient does not move around during such delicate surgery.

Patients are swayed by the infomercial, and many do not bother to seek a second opinion and, therefore, are not aware of what options may be available to them. If additional procedures are to be added, such as eyelid surgery, there will be additional fees. They are sold on the “concept,” not the surgery; all patients receive the same basic facelift. The cost is appealing to many at $4,000 or $5,900 coming in well below the cost of a regular facelift.

When patients come in for a consultation at Lifestyle Lift, they are met with a plastic surgery consultant who is not required to have any type of plastic surgery training. They are met with a very hard sale, and many have paid a surgery deposit before they even meet with the surgeon.

OVER 100,000 LIFESTYLE LIFTS PERFORMED

Lifestyle Lift LogoLifestyle Lift employed 100 doctors in various offices and 10 doctors that were in private practice, they were trained to perform the Lifestyle Lift. There have been over 100,000 Lifestyle Lifts performed since 2001.

In 2009, Lifestyle Lift agreed to pay the State of New York $300,000 in penalties in a settlement for publishing false endorsements, some of which were published on the popular website of RealSelf. There are multiple malpractice claims pending in Florida.

LIFESTYLE LIFT MAY FILE BANKRUPTCY

On Monday, March 2, it was reported in the Wall Street Journal that the company abruptly closed most of its doors and that they may file bankruptcy. Employees were notified not to show up for work unless otherwise directed. These notices followed previous massive layoffs.

Many patients have been very disappointed with their results (see the reviews on RealSelf). Remember the Lifestyle Lift is only as good as the surgeon performing it.

ADDENDUM

Just as this blog was to be posted, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Inc. posted in the Aesthetic Society E-News that on March 11, 2015 Lifestyle Lift filed for bankruptcy. They filed chapter 7 which means there will be no restructuring of debt and thereby ending the 14 year old business.
